Small plane crashes in Malaysia, with at least 9 bodies recovered

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A small aircraft crashed Thursday in a suburb in Malaysia’s central Selangor state, with at least nine bodies recovered, police said.Shah Alam district police chief Mohamad Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that a jet has crashed. He said it appeared that all the passengers on the plane had perished but couldn’t give further details. Another police officer, who declined to be named as he isn’t authorized to speak to the media, said that at least nine bodies have been found. Civil aviation authorities said there were six passengers and two crew members on board the plane. Blue Alert issued after Harris County deputy shooting

HOUSTON (KXAN) – The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a Blue Alert late Wednesday night after a Harris County sheriff's deputy was shot and wounded.According to the alert, officers are looking for two men in connection with the shooting:Terran Green, a black man, 34, who is described as 5-feet-4-inches-tall, 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a gray shirt and black shorts. James Green, a black man, 37, who is described as 5-feet-6-inches-tall, 168 pounds, with black and brown eyes. Bastrop ISD opens 2 new schools as district grows in size

BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) -- Camino Real and Colony Oaks elementary schools opened their doors for the first time this week, marking the first new schools to open in Bastrop Independent School District since 2009. The two identical schools, both with a capacity of 750 students, provide more space for a fast-growing district. Real Camino, built in Cedar Creek, and Colony Oaks, located in west Bastrop, cost just over $64 million to build. The funds were approved by voters in a 2021 bond election. The schools have state-of-the-art security systems, green spaces for students, and are fully staffed. "We are so grateful for our community, for our school board, for our district leader to bring a school to our community here at Camino Real," Dr. Augustina Lozano, the principal of Camino Real Elementary, explained.The schools hold Pre-K to fifth grade students, which is a change from last year. Hutto may have victim of cybercrime, city says

HUTTO, Texas (KXAN) – The City of Hutto said Tuesday it may have been the victim of a cybercrime involving thousands in city funds. According to the city, it was told by its financial institution late Monday evening that $193,000 in city funds were transferred to an illegitimate account impersonating a known vendor. The financial institution has assured the city that there is no further risk of being defrauded by this account again and no personal information was involved in this criminal activity, the city said.The City said it filed a police report with the Hutto Police Department and an investigation is currently underway. The Hutto Police Department will work with other law enforcement agencies, as necessary, the city said, to complete a "thorough investigation of this crime".The city said cybersecurity is a top priority and "numerous measures and staff training are in place to mitigate situations like these".
