Group of House conservatives unveils demands to support spending bill and avoid shutdown

WASHINGTON (AP) — House conservatives in a group known as the Freedom Caucus have unveiled a list of demands that they want included in a stopgap spending measure to keep the federal government running after the end of September. It’s a smorgasbord of non-starters for the Democratic-controlled Senate and the White House, signaling the challenges House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will face next month to get a bill passed in the House without alienating a sizeable share of his conference. Historically, members of the Freedom Caucus rarely support short-term spending bills to keep the government open, but with Republicans holding just a five-seat majority in the House, they have significant leverage over the agenda. CHICAGO — A suburban woman accused of threatening to kill former President Donald Trump and his son Barron has been arrested. According to charging documents, Tracy Marie Fiorenza, of Plainfield, has been charged with Transmitting Threats to Kill or Injure Another Person in Interstate Commerce. (WFLA) — Publix customers may have noticed a new sign reminding them to keep their fur babies at home if they want to shop.In recent days, Publix stores have had signs at the entrance saying that pets are not allowed to enter, including emotional support animals. Water main break shuts down streets, leads to loss of service in Leander

LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) — Water is shut off Monday afternoon to businesses and homes within an area of Leander due to a water main break. The City of Leander reported the break happened near the intersection of South West Drive and West South Street in the area known as Old Town, according to social media posts. This is west of U.S. Highway 183 and close to the Leander Presbyterian Church. "Water is currently off in the area and intersection is closed," one post read. "Please avoid the area or find alternate routes. It's unclear what caused the water main to break or how many homes and businesses are affected by it. The top prize in the $2,000,000 Sizzling Riches game was found at On the Run on Olive Boulevard in Creve Coeur.The player says that he purchased several scratchers tickets at the gas station. He saved the Sizzling Riches ticket for last. Polis signs order expediting affordable housing funding, state growth goals

In a bid to accelerate affordable housing development in Colorado, Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order Monday that expedites loan and grant approval processes while directing a suite of state agencies to prioritize programs to help prepare the state for years of coming population growth.The order sets out 10 “strategic growth goals” for Colorado in the coming years, a nod both to the state’s current housing shortage and to its projected needs. It directs the state’s Division of Housing to expedite signing contracts with approved grant and loan recipients. Polis told The Denver Post that will cut the timeline for money to reach recipients — like affordable housing developers — from eight months to 90 days.
