Revelers are keeping their eyes on the sky as the city of Boston prepares to ring in the Fourth of July with its annual festivities on the Esplanade.Gates opened for the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular at 12 p.m. to a rush of attendees. Emergency crews respond to separate crashes involving tractor-trailers on 93 southbound in Boston

Emergency crews spent Tuesday morning responding to two crashes involving tractor-trailers on Route 93 in Boston that tied up traffic into the city.Video showed traffic at a standstill around 7 a.m. as crews worked to remove a tractor-trailer from the roadway near Exit 15 and the Greater Boston Food Bank.Another crash involving a jackknifed Amazon tractor-trailer was also being cleared closer to the gas tank and Savin Hill. Authorities have not said whether there were any injuries from either incidents. The cause of both crashes remain under investigation.By 10:30 a.m., MassDOT officials said the scene of the crash by Exit 15 had been cleared while lanes were still being gradually reopened at the other crash site.

The alleged wrong-way reckless driver on Route 3 in Weymouth who hit several vehicles and then carried a knife down the highway before getting arrested has been charged with OUI drugs and numerous other offenses, according to police.Michael Silvia, 43, of Plymouth, has been identified as the suspect who’s accused of the chaotic wrong-way incident Saturday evening south of Boston.Silvia allegedly struck several vehicles before crashing into a guardrail, then apparently got out of his vehicle while carrying a knife, according to Massachusetts State Police who tried to tase him.After troopers were unable to tase Silvia, he allegedly threw the knife toward the woods and was arrested. The Massachusetts State Police is shutting down entry to and calling for evacuation of the Esplanade due to the weather.“URGENT—Due to expected heavy rain and possibility of lightning thru 5 PM we are temporarily suspending entry onto the Esplanade at the security checkpoints,” the agency tweeted at around 2:30 p.m. “This is being done so that if we do have to evacuate venue in case of lightning, fewer visitors will have to be evacuated.”The warning was bolstered by an emergency alert, which was automatically pushed to this reporter’s phone at 3:18 p.m.: “Emergency Alert: Per MSP; Pls evacuate Boston POPS event area and seek shelter due to incoming weather. Woman found dead in SUV near San Ysidro mall

SAN DIEGO — San Diego police are investigating a suspicious death Monday after a woman was found dead inside a vehicle in San Ysidro.Shortly after midnight, a security guard discovered the woman inside an SUV parked at a strip mall located at 4400 Camino De La Plaza, near the Las Americas Premium Outlets, SDPD said.The circumstances that led to the woman's death are still under investigation by SDPD's Homicide Unit. She was described by police as being in her 30s. Three arrested after police standoff in North County Officials said the incident is being investigated as a suspicious death. There was not any suspect information immediately available.The strip mall is located at the last exit before the U.S.-Mexico border.
