NASA identifies new asteroid that could impact Earth in 2046

(NewsNation) — NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office announced it has been tracking a new asteroid that could potentially hit Earth on Valentine's Day in 2046.Although NASA said there is a "very small chance" of impact, orbit analysts will continue to watch the asteroid named 2023 DW. "Often when new objects are first discovered, it takes several weeks of data to reduce the uncertainties and adequately predict their orbits years into the future," NASA's Asteroid Watch tweeted. ACC to launch 2 new education certifications amid teacher shortage

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Amid ongoing teacher shortages nationwide and an anticipated loss of school principals in the Austin area, Austin Community College is rolling out two new certification programs later this year.ACC will soon launch a teacher's residency and a principal certification program. Rebecca Miller, program coordinator for the principal certification program, told KXAN a 28-school district study conducted by ACC found 50% of districts have campuses with principals who will be retiring in the next three to five years."We really, really want to be able to have people who know how to develop and cultivate and keep teachers, because that's what our kids need," she said.The two-year program will feature a first year of intensive coursework with night classes twice weekly, with the second year centered around on-campus mentorship and support from ACC field supervisors. Ecolab to invest $2 million to create green space in downtown St. Paul

Global water treatment and technology company Ecolab and the city of St. Paul announced a partnership Saturday to initiate a $2 million project to convert a downtown sidewalk and concrete plaza into a community green space.At the St. Paul-based company’s 100th anniversary celebration at Rice Park, Ecolab Chairman and CEO Christophe Beck and Mayor Melvin Carter announced plans for the beautification of a 26,000-plus-square-foot area located between Ecolab Global Headquarters, the Landmark Center and the historic Hamm Building. Weekend snowfall in Twin Cities makes this 8th snowiest winter on record

The snow kept on coming.As of Sunday, the 2022-23 Twin Cities snowfall season became the eighth snowiest on record, according to the National Weather Service. The metro has measured more than 80 inches since October.And NWS meteorologist Melissa Dye said more could be on the way. Richmondville man arrested after domestic incident

RICHMONDVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Richmondville man was arrested on Wednesday following a domestic incident and was found to have controlled substances, including cocaine, according to police. On March 8, around 4:39 p.m., police say they responded to a Richmondville home for a report of a past occurring physical domestic dispute. Police say an investigation determined Palmateer got into an altercation with the victim earlier that day. Flooding puts Interstate 880 in Fremont under water

FREMONT — Flooding continued to wreak havoc on the Bay Area freeways and highways Sunday, with commuters traveling on Interstate 880 the latest to feel the wrath.The California Highway Patrol shut down all lanes of I-880 in both directions late Sunday morning after flooding from a canal overflow turned the freeway into a small river.The CHP announced the full closure in both directions at 11:51 a.m.Northbound traffic had to divert the freeway at the Mowry Avenue exit and was expected to be closed until at least 10 p.m. Sunday night, according to the CHP.
