Normandy students welcomed back to class with energy and enthusiasm

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Monday marked the first day of class for many area school districts, including the Normandy Schools Collaborative. Normandy alumni started arriving outside the high school well before the scheduled 7:20 a.m. start of classes. Some alumni held signs of encouragement and cheered as students arrived.“We want the kids to come in and see all of this support and get excited about today and this entire school year.,” said Nykea Watts Edwards, 1994 graduate of Normandy High School.The cheers have become a tradition with alumni sending messages of encouragement to students.“We will be with you along the way, and if you need anything, we are here,” Watts Edwards said.“The alumni are very, very supportive of the things we do at the school district,” said Ronald L. OAKLAND — On July 11, an Oakland patrol officer responded to a call of three teen girls who appeared to be in distress while a man in a vehicle chased after them, but as the officer arrived in his patrol car, only the girls remained; the suspect and his Lexus were already speeding away.Over the next month, sex crimes detectives would end up building a case that authorities say exemplifies both the dangers of sex trafficking and of meeting strangers online. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A victim has non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in San Francisco's Mission District on Monday, the San Francisco Police Department said. SFPD responded to 24th and Mission Streets at about 5:50 p.m. regarding gunshots being heard. Responding officers could not find a victim immediately. Later, a victim was located and hospitalized, SFPD said. The suspect in the shooting remains at large. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact SFPD at (415) 575-4444.

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A Colorado family is searching far and wide for their missing pet, a water buffalo.In the Elbert County farm town of Agate, where cows graze and raise their young, a special part of the Perrys' four-legged family is now missing.“Moochi, and we call her Mooch for short,” owner Laura Perry said. “She's similar to a cow, a little bit longer nose, almost like a little hippopotamus bootie, and she's buff color."'Such a sweet girl'At 14 months old, missing Moochi is about 900 pounds.
