Suspect in 1979 South Bay cold case homicide identified

(KRON) -- Nearly 44 years after the stabbing death of an 18-year-old security guard in Sunnyvale, the cold case murder suspect has been identified, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety announced Thursday.In 1979, Estella Elena Mena worked as a security guard in Sunnyvale for a business located at 444 De Guigne Drive, officials said. On Oct. 27 of that year, Sunnyvale DPS officers responded to a report of an assault at the business and located Mena in the lobby suffering from multiple stab wounds.Sunnyvale DPS said that there were no leads on suspects for years following the killing.Estella Elena Mena (Photo: Sunnyvale DPS)A DNA profile from blood evidence collected at the crime scene was run through CODIS, a national DNA database, at that time. Bystander dies after having leg severed in Oakland hit-and-run

(KRON) -- A bystander was killed after having his leg severed in a hit-and-run crash that occurred Wednesday night in Oakland, police confirmed. Officers with the Oakland Police Department responded to the area of High Street and International Boulevard just before 10:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a hit-and-run crash with major injuries.At the scene, officers located a victim whose leg was completely severed as a result of the collision. The victim was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.OPD described the victim as a 40-year-old Hispanic man. His identity is being withheld, pending next of kin. DENVER (KDVR) — An iconic local restaurant, Sam's No. 3, announced Wednesday that its location in Aurora will close by the end of 2023.The diner and bar announced the closure on Facebook, saying, "It is time for us to concentrate on owning our own space." 8 iconic restaurants only found in Colorado Sam's No. 3 has a long history. It first opened in Denver in 1927 when Sam Andrew Armatas, an immigrant from Greece, made his way to Denver, according to the website. A plane that crashed in Pembroke Pines prompted a swift response by rescue crews.Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue arrived at the scene of the crash at North Perry Airport, located at 101 SW 77th Way, Thursday afternoon. https://twitter.com/PPinesPD/status/1717610457366684084According to Pembroke Pines Police, the pilot on board the plane, a Mooney M20E, was extricated and was conscious and breathing.No other injuries were reported. All lanes blocked on I-595 West near Nob Hill Road in Davie after tanker rolls over, catches on fire;

All lanes are closed on Interstate 595 after a tanker rolled-over and caught on fire.Davie Fire Rescue arrived at the scene on I-595 West, just before Exit 5: Pine Island Road, Thursday afternoon. The tanker carried waste products and its fuel lines were ruptured. The vehicle swerved, went on its side and caught on fire. Rescue crews at the scene attempted to douse the flames and have called additional units to assist them.According to officials, the driver of the vehicle is in his 30s and was transported to Broward Health Center with severe burns. Crews were able to put out the fire, but due to debris at the scene, three lanes on the highway were closed down.
