US, Denver see first yearly drop in home prices since 2012

DENVER (KDVR) -- Colorado may be one of the most expensive housing markets in the country, but this year it marked its first annual drop in price in a decade. This comes on the heels of a national trend. According to a Redfin report on the national housing market, the median U.S. home sale price fell 1.2% in February to $386,721. The U.S. hasn't seen a year-over-year decline in home prices since 2012.  Want a spacious Colorado home? Dream on High mortgage rates turned the tables on what was one of the hottest housing markets of recent history. Buyers are less willing to pay the asking prices of last year, and sellers are still holding out for those prices. Prices are down even further along the Front Range, one of the nation's most scalding hot housing markets. A sign of respect now stands in honor of a South Florida officer killed in the line of duty. The street where he grew up will now bear his name.The location, 162nd Avenue, near 56th Street, holds big meaning for Cesar Echaverry‘s family. It is where the Miami-Dade Police officer lived his life. “Today’s dedication will never ease the pain of his passing,” said Stephanie Vargas, his fiance. “We’ll remember him every single day, and we’ll do everything we can to honor his memory.”Echaverry was killed in August while chasing an armed robbery suspect. Idaho OKs veto-proof bill to allow execution by firing squad

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A bill that would allow Idaho to execute condemned inmates by firing squad is headed to the governor’s desk after passing the Legislature on Monday with a veto-proof majority.Firing squads will be used only if the state cannot obtain the drugs needed for lethal injections — but one death row inmate has already had his scheduled execution postponed multiple times because of drug scarcity.Idaho previously had a firing squad option on the books but has never used it. The option was removed it from state law in 2009 after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a method of lethal injection that was commonly used at the time.Only Mississippi, Utah, Oklahoma and South Carolina currently have laws allowing firing squads if other execution methods are unavailable, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. A judge has put South Carolina’s law on hold until a lawsuit challenging the method is resolved.

(CNN) — Six people affiliated with the Oath Keepers, a far-right militia, were convicted Monday of various charges related to the January 6, 2021, US Capitol insurrection.Four of the defendants were found guilty on all of the charges they faced.
