UN: International donors promise $1.5 billion in aid to Sudan

CAIRO (AP) — International donors promised almost $1.5 billion in additional aid for conflict-stricken Sudan on Monday as the United Nations warned that the African country’s humanitarian crisis is worsening.Sudan has been rocked by fighting for more than two months as the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces battle for control of the country. Sudan’s Health Ministry said Saturday that more than 3,000 have been killed in the conflict, which has decimated the country’s fragile infrastructure and sparked ethnic violence in the western Darfur region.The donations were pledged following a U.N.-sponsored meeting co-hosted by Egypt, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the African Union in the Swiss city of Geneva. “The scale and speed of Sudan’s descent into death and destruction is unprecedented,” U.N. Suspect in custody after 4 people fatally shot at residence in Idaho, police say

KELLOGG, Idaho (AP) — Idaho State Police said Monday that they were investigating a shooting that left four people dead in the small city of Kellogg. One person was in custody, according to police.“Detectives arrived late last night. … They are continuing to work and process the scene,” a state police spokesperson said in a text message.Crime scene tape on Monday blocked off parts of an apartment complex in Kellogg, about 36 miles (58 kilometers) east of Coeur d’Alene, KXLY-TV reported. DENVER (KDVR) – Joseph Maldonado-Passage, known widely as "Joe Exotic," has filed the paperwork to appear on the 2024 Democratic presidential primary ballot in Colorado, according to the former zookeeper.The 60-year-old was the subject of the popular Netflix documentary "Tiger King," which was released in 2020. Maldonado is currently serving a 21-year sentence in federal prison after being convicted in a murder-for-hire plot. Austin Parks Foundation and the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) are leading the effort. This is all happening ahead of the 2023 Juneteenth Holiday. According to PARD, Madison was born into slavery in Memphis, Tennessee in 1843. Once slavery officially ended in 1865, Madison moved to Austin. AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new report from The New York Times' The Upshot found approximately 28,000 remote workers relocated to Austin during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, marking the analysis' highest recorded net gain of remote workers nationally.The analysis found New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco were the three metros accounting for the highest losses of remote workers, with 116,000, 53,000 and 32,000 workers relocating from those areas, respectively. In contrast, Austin's net gain of 28,000 remote workers, Denver's additional 23,000 remote employees along with Nashville and Dallas' 10,000 additional remote workers each rounded out the top influxes.
